Students Participate in Life-Changing Experience

mission tripMore than 200 students and staff from our board are travelling to Africa, South America and Central America to take part in annual mission trips. The students will spend two weeks immersed in the culture - working with students in a school setting and participating in construction projects that will benefit the community for years to come. The goal is to help the community in a practical way.

This year, there are five different schools participating in mission trips:

April 18, 2015 - Holy Trinity Catholic High School - Ecuador

May 1, 2015 - St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School - Nicaragua

May 1, 2015 - St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School - Ecuador

May 2, 2015 - St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School - Ecuador

May 6, 2015 - St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School - Tanzania

May 7, 2015 - St. Joseph's Catholic High School - Tanzania

The students receive three credits for their participation in this course, where they learn about the geography, history and socioeconomics of the country they are visiting. The students also organize a variety of fundraising initiatives to support their mission. When the students return, they visit other elementary and secondary schools in the area in order to share their experiences.

The first credit-based mission trip took place in 2009, and since then more than 800 students have embarked on this remarkable opportunity. For every single student and staff member who has participated in one of these mission trips, the experience has been life-altering
